In Primorsky Region, probe launched into encroachment on officers of the Border Directorate of the Federal Security Service

The Far Eastern Transport Investigations Directorate of the Investigative Committee of Russia has launched a probe into the attack of North Korean poachers on military personnel of the Border Directorate of the Federal Security Service in Primorsky Region under Article 317 of the Criminal Code of Russia (encroachment on the life of a law enforcement officer).

According to the investigation, at about 5 PM of September 17, 2019, fishing boats under the flag of DPRK had been discovered in the waters of the Sea of Japan poaching aquatic biological resources.  

During operational activities of the ship checking, the North Korean poachers had shown strong resistance to members of the boarding party which inflicted bodily injuries of varying severity to four officers, one of them received a gun-shot wound.

An operational investigative unit was created to investigate this case. The investigators are arranging forensic examinations, questioning witnesses of the incident, and performing other investigative actions.

At present, the fishing boats and the North Korean citizens are being escorted to the place of inspection and performance of investigative activities.
