Person suspected of assisting terrorism extradited from Germany to Volgograd

The Volgograd Regional Directorate of the Investigative Committee of Russia continues the investigation into the 19-year-old native of a Caucasian republic accused of committing an offence under Part 1 of Article 205.1 of the Criminal Code of Russia (involvement of other persons in taking part in an unauthorized armed gang).

According to the investigation, in 2017, the accused, while in the Federative Republic of Germany, had started a correspondence with two minor citizens of one of the Russian regions through a popular social network and a messenger and had been urging them to enter an unauthorized armed gang carrying out terrorist activities in the Syrian Arab Republic. The teenagers had eventually agreed but special service officers had timely reacted to the illegal correspondence and prevented them from coming to the zone of military conflict. The probe into this fact was launched immediately. The minor accomplices who had given in to the recruitment were swiftly identified and brought to criminal responsibility, and their "spiritual guide" was put on a wanted list. The fact that the man had been living in Germany and carrying out his terrorist activities from there was revealed in April of this year. Within the framework of international cooperation and jointly with Interpol, he was detained at his residence in the city of Husum. Recently, the procedure of extradition of the accused individual was completed and he was delivered to Volgograd Region. During interrogation, the accused refused to testify under Article 51 of the Constitution of the Russian Federation.

A set of investigative activities aimed to gather and prove the evidence is being carried out.

For their attempted participation in the unauthorized armed gang in a foreign country (Part 3 of Article 30, Part 2 of Article 208 of the Criminal Code of Russia), the accomplices of the main perpetrator were sentenced to three years of imprisonment in a strict regime colony with subsequent freedom restraint for one year.
