Member of Board of Directors and founder of the Murmansk Shipping Company charged with abuse of authority involving grave consequences


The North-West Transport Investigations Directorate of the Investigative Committee of Russia accused a member of board of directors and a founder of the Murmansk Shipping Company PJSC in committing an offence under Part 2 of Article 201 of the Criminal Code of Russia (abuse of authority involving grave consequences).

Investigators of the Investigative Committee of Russia, the North-West and Central Transport Directorates of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia and the Murmansk Regional Directorate of the Federal Security System of Russia carried out searches in the mission of the Murmansk Shipping Company PJSC in Moscow and at the residence of the accused.

High-priced pieces of art have been seized during the search activities including 11 paintings of Nicholay Roerich, one of which named "Pomoryane. Evening" was priced at about 2.5-3 million USD in 2009 and Aivazovsky painting "Along the coast, Capri". Documents on activities of offshore companies have been also seized.

The accused was escorted to Murmansk at the place of the commission of the offence. Today the court will examine an investigative motion on election of a preventive measure. The criminal investigation is ongoing.
