Evidence gathered by the Main Investigations Directorate of the Investigative Committee of Russia was found by the court to be sufficient to sentence former Deputy Director for Discipline of the Krasnokamsk General School No. 3 of Perm Territory Elena Pogorzhalskaya. She has been found guilty of committing an offence under Part 2 of Article 293 of the Criminal Code of Russia (negligence).
From March to July of 2018, a mother of a girl had intentionally limited her daughter’s nutrition in order to take her life, which had led to a severe weight loss of the minor who had kept going to school.
The court and the investigation established that Pogorzhalskaya, who had been responsible for the safety of the pupils, had not taken required measures to inform relevant service and law enforcement bodies about the socially dangerous situation of the pupil and had not initiated an inspection of the living conditions of the family of the deceased girl. The negligence demonstrated by the Deputy Director of the school had prevented social services from timely intervening, which had led to the death of the minor of undernutrition caused by the illegal actions of her mother.
The court has sentenced Pogorzhalskaya to two years of imprisonment, suspended.
The probe into the mother of the child launched under Paragraphs C and E of Part 2 of Article 105 is also on the final stage. At the moment, the investigators are considering sending the case to the court for taking possible medical measures on the woman.
This fact shows the consequences of the indifference of an official who is supposed to care for and secure the interests of minors. Protection of the rights and legal interests of children is one of the priority tasks of the Investigative Committee of Russia. As required by law, each investigator of the Committee is aimed to establish not only the circumstances of the tragedy but also its reasons.
