Probe finished into several persons accused of corruption offences

The Investigations Directorate III (in Nizhny Novgorod) of the Main Investigations Directorate of the Investigative Committee of Russia has finished the probe into former Head of Economic Crimes Control and Methodology Department of the Main Investigations Directorate of the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia in Samara Region Vera Rabinovich, entrepreneur Vitaly Prokofiev, and an unemployed woman Janna Nazarova. Rabinovich is accused of committing offence under Part 6 of Article 290 of the Criminal Code of Russia (bribe-taking), Prokofiev under Part 3 of Article 30, Part 4 of Article 291.1 of the Criminal Code of Russia (attempted mediation in bribery), Nazarova under Part 4 of Article 291.1 of the Criminal Code of Russia (mediation in bribery).

According to the investigation, in December 2018, with the mediation of her acquaintances Prokofiev and Nazarova, Rabinovich received the first part of a bribe of the total value of 15 million rubles and was arrested red-handed by officers of the Regional Directorate of the Federal Security Service. The indicated money was meant for Rabinovich from a familiar entrepreneur wanting to bring his debtor to criminal responsibility. The accused woman was supposed to influence an investigator of the District Investigative Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, who processed the probe, and the direction of the Investigative Department to make a decision required by the bribe-giver.

Rabinovich did not plead guilty. She was ruled to be placed in custody. Upon investigative motion, the court arrested her real estate property and money in order to ensure compensation for damage.

The investigation gathered enough evidence to prove Rabinovich, Prokofiev, and Nazarova guilty; therefore, the criminal case with the approved indictment was sent to the court to be tried on the merits.
