Alexander Bastrykin together with Alexander Sukharev initiate relocation of exposition and bust of Marshal Ivan Konev from underpopulated settlement to Kirov
Chairman of the Investigative Committee of Russia Alexander Bastrykin, as a member of the Russian Organizing Committee Pobeda, and President of the Interregional Public Foundation Outstanding Military and Naval Commanders of Russia Alexander Sukharev initiated an issue of perpetuating the memory of legendary commander Ivan Stepanovich Konev before the Governor of Kirov Region.
There is a memorial house-museum of Soviet Union Marshal Ivan Konev in an underpopulated settlement of Lodeyno in Podosinovsky District of Kirov Region. A bust of the Commander was installed there and exhibits were collected--more than a thousand units of storage reflecting the life of one of the great marshals of the Motherland, who had participated in the conquest of the Victory in the war against fascism.
However, this area with a population of 14 people is located at a distance from Kirov and requires at least 6 hours to get to the house-museum. The inaccessible location of the unique collection jeopardizes its safety and makes it difficult for large groups to visit the museum. Therefore, Alexander Bastrykin and Alexander Sukharev addressed a letter to the Governor of the region with a request to consider the possibility of transferring the exhibits and bust of Ivan Stepanovich Konev to the regional center.
Twice the Hero of the Soviet Union, Marshal Ivan Konev’s brilliant talent of a military commander had manifested in a number of operations to liberate the territory occupied by the Nazis. Under his command, strong enemy groups had been defeated. The skillful leadership of the front troops in major operations had become one of the springboards to strike Hitler’s troops and the subsequent surrender of the invader. He had been a man faithful to the principles and the Motherland, who had shown unbending willpower and courage in the fight against fascism. His feat should serve as an example of devotion to duty, remain a part of the history of the Great Victory and a lesson for future generations.
The relocation of the historically significant collection and bust of Ivan Konev to a large regional center will help to preserve them for future generations and will certainly interest fellow countrymen of the legendary general, young residents of the region, and guests of Kirov.
