Probe launched into child’s disappearance in the Tyva Republic upon instruction of Chairman of the Investigative Committee of Russia

At 9:22 PM on October 1, 2019, law enforcement bodies of Todzhinsky District were reported about the disappearance of a 12-year-old boy. Chairman of the Investigative Committee of Russia Alexander Bastrykin instructed the Tyva Republican Directorate of the Investigative Committee of Russia to immediately launch a probe under Paragraph C of Part 2 of Article 105 of the Criminal Code of Russia (murder of a minor) in order to organize a massive search and to establish all circumstances of the child’s disappearance in impartial and comprehensive manner.

At present, it is established that the boy, his father, and their acquaintances had been picking pine nuts in Khoor Arga place in the taiga, 20 kilometers away from the Iy settlement of Todzhinsky District. In the early afternoon on September 29, 2019, the boy had gone from the camp in the direction of the settlement on foot. At approximately 2 PM, local citizens had discovered the absence of the boy and carried out a self-organized search bearing no success. The boy is still missing.

The search for the child is maintained by reinforced investigative teams consisting of officers of the Investigative Committee of Russia, Ministry of Internal Affairs, and EMERCOM, and local citizens. Forensic officers of the Investigations Directorate apply various pieces of forensic equipment, including satellite communications and equipment for photographic and video recording.

The Chairman of the Investigative Committee of Russia instructed the Direction of the Republican Investigations Directorate to engage additional forces and resources to search for the child 24/7 as part of the preliminary investigation. The criminal investigation is ongoing under the supervision of the Central Office of the Investigative Committee of Russia.
