Charges pressed against pilot of RRJ-95B plane that crashed in Sheremetyevo airport in May
The Main Directorate on Major Crimes Investigation of the Investigative Committee of Russia pressed charges against commander of the aircraft RRJ-95B Denis Evdokimov during the investigation into the passenger plane catastrophe in the Sheremetyevo airport. He is accused of commissioning an offense under Part 3 of Article 263 of the Criminal Code of Russia (violation of the rules for traffic safety and operation of air transport entailing the death of two or more persons by negligence).
According to the investigation, on May 5, 2019, the commander of the aircraft heading from Moscow to Murmansk had undertaken a rough landing on the Sheremetyevo runway upon return to the airport of departure. Further actions of Evdokimov on the operation of the aircraft involving violations of safety rules had caused destruction and ignition of the plane, which had entailed the death of 40 passengers and one crew member. Moreover, 10 persons had received injuries of varying severity.
At the moment of the ignition, there had been 78 people in total, including three minors and five crew members.
The criminal investigation is ongoing.
