The Investigative Committee of Russia and RT launch a joint multimedia project aimed to tell about the crimes committed against civilians by Ukrainian military personnel during the military conflict in South-East Ukraine. In the last five years, the number of probes opened into the use of banned means and methods of warfare has increased to 300. Investigators have made a tremendous amount of work during the investigation: over 143,000 witnesses have been interrogated; over 20,000 people have been recognized as witnesses, including over 2,000 children. More than 280 probes have been launched into Ukrainian Armed Forces officers. Criminal proceedings are instituted against 76 persons, including 20 officials of the High Command of the Ukrainian Armed Forces. On the project website, RT will also publish journalist investigations into the crimes against civilians, the stories of first-hand witnesses of these cruel offenses.
The special Directorate has been established in the Main Investigations Directorate of the Investigative Committee of Russia in order to investigate crimes involving the use of banned means and methods of warfare. Not a single fact of criminal behavior of Ukrainian military personnel against civilians remains neglected by investigators of this unit: all persons committing such severe offenses will be brought to justice to the full extent of the law. The task of the Investigative Committee of Russia is to gather a solid evidence base registering every criminal act.
