In Ryazan Region, three men sentenced for murder of veteran of the Great Patriotic War


Evidence gathered by the Ryazan Regional Directorate of the Investigative Committee of Russia was found by the court to be sufficient to convict two Ryazan citizens born in 1968 and 1973 and a Moscow Region citizen born in 1971. Depending on their involvement, they are convicted of committing offenses under Paragraph C of Part 4 of Article 162 (robbery), Part 4 of Article 111 (intentional infliction of a grave injury entailing the death of a victim by negligence), Part 3 of Article 159 (swindling on a large scale), and Paragraphs A, C, D of Part 2 of Article 161 (plunder) of the Criminal Code of Russia.

The investigation and the court established that, in early 2017, two Ryazan residents had been performing construction works on a garden plot of the 93-year-old veteran of the Great Patriotic War. Upon completion of the works, one of them had taken 395,000 rubles from the victim under the disguise of borrowing. Almost a year after, in the afternoon of March 26, 2018, the indicated persons and two their acquaintances had come to the house of the veteran, having an intent to attack the senior person and steal his money and property. Under the disguise of returning the money, the 47-year-old Moscow Region citizen had entered the apartment, attacked the veteran, and started strangling and beating him, demanding the money. When the victim refused, the perpetrator had tied him up and duct-taped his mouth. After that, he had searched the apartment and stolen cash and property of the total value exceeding 80,000 rubles. Then the convicts had fled the scene with the stolen money and property. Shortly thereafter the victim had died from his injuries.

Several days after, three suspects of the committed offenses were detained due to the well-coordinated investigative and search activities. The other perpetrator was put on a federal wanted list, the probe into him is to be presented separately.

The court sentenced the 48-year-old Moscow Region citizen to 12 years of imprisonment in a strict regime penal colony for multiple offenses. The previously convicted 46-year-old Ryazan citizen was sentenced to 5.5 years of imprisonment in a strict regime penal colony, the 51-year-old Ryazan citizen to 3 years of imprisonment, suspended.
