In the Republic of Karelia, former social worker found guilty of murdering two people and robbing

The evidence gathered by the Karelia Republican Investigations Directorate of the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation was found by the court to be sufficient to convict a 35-year-old woman. She was found guilty of committing offenses under Paragraphs A, C, H of Part 2 of Article 105 (murder of two persons for self-interested reasons, of a person in a helpless state), and Paragraph C of Part 4 of Article 162 (robbery causing serious harm to the health of the victim) of the Criminal Code of Russia.

The investigation and the court established that, on November 5, 2018, the defendant, as an employee of the Centre for Social Services of the Pitkäranta Municipal District, had come to the apartment of a 58-year-old man and a 55-year-old disabled woman (brother and sister) armed with a knife, and with a view to stealing money from them, had inflicted multiple stab wounds on both victims. The man and woman had died at the scene from the injuries received, while the defendant had stolen over 260,000 rubles of money from the apartment and fled.

The convicted woman was detained during joint investigative and search activities performed by officers of the Republican Directorates of the Investigative Committee and Ministry of Internal Affairs.

Upon investigative motion, the court ruled to put the woman in custody. The court sentenced her to 14.5 years of imprisonment in a general regime correctional colony.
