Probe into the Head of North Caucasian Federal Service for Ecological, Technological and Nuclear Supervision finished

The Main Investigations Directorate of the Investigative Committee of Russia finished probe into Head of North Caucasian Federal Service for Ecological, Technological and Nuclear Supervision Timofey Pan accused of committing offence under Part 1.1 of Article 293 of the Criminal Code of Russia (neglect of duty, that is, the non-discharge by a functionary of his duties involving substantial breach of the legally-protected interests of society and the State).

According to investigation, Pan, knowing about operation of a hazardous industrial object - coal enrichment plant - operating in violation of existing legislation in Novoshahtinsk of Rostov Region, failed to fulfill his duty to suspend its operation, which entailed large-scale environmental damage in form of soil contamination which amounted to over 93 million roubles.

During investigation real estate objects and money belonging to the accused were arrested.

Investigation gathered enough evidence, therefore the probe with indictment approved by the Prosecutor General of the Russian Federation was referred to court to be tried on the merits.
