In Sverdlovsk Region, a probe launched into a murder attended by a robbery attack on a bank

On October 18, 2019, law enforcement units received a report about a robbery attack on a bank in Yekaterinburg. One of the visitors of the financial institution was killed during the attack committed using firearms.

The Sverdlovsk Regional Investigations Directorate of the Investigative Committee of Russia launched a probe under Part 2 of Article 105 (murder attended by robbery) and Part 4 of Article 162 of the Criminal Code of Russia (robbery). Penalty for the gravest crime of the indicated provides punishment up to life imprisonment.

As it was preliminarily established, on October 18 an attacker wearing a mask entered the bank alone with an item resembling a 16-calibre sawn-off double-barrel gun. At that time there were several visitors and staff members including an administrator. The attacker, who was said to be under influence of alcohol, demanded cash from an administrator and fired one shot at the ceiling and one shot at one of the visitors who died at the scene. After that citizens present in the bank managed to disarm and detain the suspect at the scene. At the moment investigators of the Investigative Committee of Russia are working with the detainee. Forensics Department officers of the Investigative Committee of Russia examined the scene using modern forensic equipment and extracted some evidence subject to further relevant examinations. The sawn-off gun and the mask of the attacker have been seized from the scene.

At present, the suspect has already been detained under a required procedure; charges against him will be pressed in the near future. Apart from that, the investigation intends to motion the court to keep the detainee in custody. The criminal investigation is ongoing.
