In Moscow, two high-positioned police officers suspected of attempted swindling

The Moscow Directorate of the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation launched a probe into two high-positioned police officers - Deputy Head of the Ministry of the Internal Offences Department for Dorogomilovo District of Moscow - Chief of Police - and his Deputy - Chief of Criminal Police Division. He is suspected of committing an offence under Part 3 of Article 30, Part 4 of Article 159 of the Criminal Code of Russia (attempted swindling on a large scale).

According to the investigation, from September to October 17, 2019, the perpetrators illegally conspired to steal 3.5 million roubles from a familiar advocate subject to procedural probe. For the designated sum of money, they promised the advocate to influence the results of the procedural probe to drop charges against him. In fact, the accomplices didn’t have such jurisdiction and were intended to appropriate the money.

On October 17, 2019, the suspects arranged the meeting with the suspect in order to get the demanded money, where they were detained red-handed by law enforcement officers during search activities.

At the moment, at a request of the investigation, the court subjected the defendants to preventive detention. They will be charged in the coming days. The criminal investigation is ongoing.
