A probe into a fire in Gravitatsia mall in Irkutsk referred to court

The Main Investigations Directorate of the Investigative Committee of Russia finished a probe into directors of the Gravitatsia scientific and entertainment centre Natalya and Oleg Sobolev and a juvenile host of a show of this organization accused of provision of services, which do not meet standards of safety to lives or health of consumers, targeting children up to six years old, entailing by negligence infliction of severe health damage (Paragraphs A,B,C of Part 2 of Article 238 of the Criminal Code of Russia).

According to the investigation, from August 2017 to June 2018, in Irkutsk the Director of Kaizen LLC Natalya Soboleva, the Technical Director of Kaizen LLC Oleg Sobolev, a juvenile show host of this organization and his assistant Angelina Loskutova, in violation of fire protection requirements of the Russian Federation demonstrated to children and their parents experiments using open fire in an enclosed area - Gravitatsia scientific and entertainment centre.

On June 1, 2018, in presence of 50 spectators, they were demonstrating another series of chemical experiments with the use of open fire in the Gravitatsia scientific and entertainment centre. During the event the vapour ignited and started the fire. The fire affected children and their parents present in the audience; two minor children received severe health injuries.

The collected evidence was found by the Deputy Prosecutor General to be sufficient to approve an indictment and to send the probe to court.

A probe into Loskutova has been previously presented to court separately. She has already been found guilty.
