A former Deputy of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine to stand the Russian court

The Main Investigations Directorate of the Investigative Committee of Russia finished investigation into former Deputy of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Nicholay Rudkovsky accused of attack on the Embassy of the Russian Federation (Part 2 of Article 360 of the Criminal Code of Russia). Rudkovsky was put on an international wanted list; in 2018 he was detained in the Vnukovo airport when crossing the border of the Russian Federation. At present, he is in custody.

According to the investigation, on June 14, 2014, in Kiev Ukrainian citizens Vladimir Nazarenko, Vladimir Romantsov, Alexey Bakay and other activists of Ukrainian nationalist organizations «Right sector», «Azov» and other right-wing groups attacked the Embassy of the Russian Federation. The designated persons threw stones at the administrative building of the embassy and tried to set it on fire with pyrotechnic articles. Diplomatic cars were also damaged by the attackers armed with axes, sticks, scraps and other items.

The former Deputy of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Nicholay Rudkovsky arrived at the scene and joined the radicals. As part of a group of persons, he took an active part in the attack against the Russian diplomatic mission. According to the investigation, the illegal actions of the Deputy and the other attackers were aimed to complicate the international relations of Russia with Ukraine and other countries.

The illegal actions of the designated persons disrupted the normal functioning of the Embassy and caused the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs material damage of over 14 million roubles.

A probe into Rudkovsky was processed separately and sent to the Russian General Prosecutor’s Office to approve the indictment.

The Investigative Committee of Russia takes all measures provided for by the existing legislation to bring to justice other participants of the attack on the Russian diplomatic mission in Kiev in 2014.
