On the process of investigation into attacks on the Russian Embassy in Kiev
The Main Investigations Directorate of the Investigative Committee of Russia continues the investigation of probes into attacks against the Russian Embassy in Ukraine in 2014-2016.
The investigation established that Ukrainian citizen Roman Ragozin took an active part in the attack on the Embassy on March 6, 2016.
Recently Ragozin was in absentia accused of committing an offense under Part 2 of Article 360 of the Criminal Code of Russia (assaults on persons or institutions enjoying international protection).
Previously the investigation established the involvement in the offense of Ukrainian citizens Irma Krat and Vladimir Koshovenko. They were put on the international wanted list; the court subjected them to preventive detention in absentia.
We shall also remind that on June 14, 2014, in Kiev, Ukrainian citizens Vladimir Nazarenko, Vladimir Romantsov, Alexey Bakay, and other activists of Ukrainian nationalist organizations “Right Sector”, “Azov” and other right-wing groups threw stones at the Embassy of the Russian Federation and tried to set it on fire. Diplomatic cars were also damaged by the attackers armed with axes, sticks, scraps, and other items. The illegal actions of the designated persons disrupted the normal functioning of the Embassy and caused the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs material damage of over 14 million rubles.
Deputy of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Nikolai Rudkovsky arrived at the scene and joined the radicals. As part of a group of persons, he took an active part in the attack against the Russian diplomatic mission.
According to the investigation, the illegal actions of the Deputy and the other attackers were aimed to complicate the international relations of Russia with Ukraine and other countries. This version is confirmed by witness testimonies as well as by an analysis of certain actions and statements made by Rudkovsky as the Deputy of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine.
The probe into Rudkovsky was referred to court to be tried on the merits; he is detained. Nazarenko, Romantsov, and Bakay were previously accused of committing an attack against institutions enjoying international protection. They have been arrested in absentia.
The Investigative Committee of Russia continues to take all measures provided for by the existing legislation to bring to justice other participants of the attack on the Russian diplomatic mission in Kiev in 2014 and 2016.
