In Bashkortostan, local authorities suspected of abuse of authority during providing housing to orphan children

The Bashkortostan Regional Directorate of the Investigative Committee of Russia launched a probe into unidentified officials of Belokataisky Municipal District Administration of Republic of Bashkortostan suspected of committing offences under Part 1 of Article 285 of the Criminal Code of Russia (abuse of authority).

As established by the investigation, in December 2018, the Belokataisky Municipal District Administration and an individual entrepreneur concluded a municipal contract for purchase of housing for orphan children and children left without parental care worth over 900,000 roubles. Officials of the administration commissioned the housing for permanent accommodation and provided it to an orphan child or a child left without parental care under a first-hand contract.

The assessment carried out by monitoring bodies of the Republic of Bashkortostan revealed that the house is in an emergency state and doesn’t comply with mechanical safety requirements and construction standards.

At present, investigators are establishing all circumstances of the committed offence, examining project and organizational documents of the municipal contract and identifying persons responsible for violations committed during the purchase and commissioning of the building.
