Probes launched upon threats against a judge and calls for extremist activities

Investigative Committee of Russia launched probes into publishing on the Internet public calls for extremist activities and murder and health damage threats against a judge of the Moscow Municipal Court.

According to available information, committing of the offence under Part 2 of Article 280 of the Criminal Code of Russia involved previously convicted Alexey Veresov born in 1973. The investigation regards actions of Sergey Polovets born in 1978 as an offence under Part 1 of Article 296 of the Criminal Code of Russia.

The designated persons have been detained; they will be charged in the nearest future, following which the investigation will motion the court to decide upon the measure of restraint.

It shall be reminded that judges serve their duties within the law to restore justice and violated rights of citizens. Pressure against judges is unacceptable and all the more unacceptable are threats related to administration of justice. Therefore during investigation all circumstances and actions of the perpetrators will be given impartial legal assessment in strict accordance with requirements of the existing criminal legislation.
