The I Directorate on Investigation of Major Crimes against Person and Public Security of the Moscow Main Investigations Directorate of the Investigative Committee of Russia is investigating a probe into the use of physical violence against three adopted children (Part 2 of Article 117 of the Criminal Code of Russia).
Moscow investigators have been informed about the illegal activities against adopted children from mass media reports. The Moscow Main Investigations Directorate of the Investigative Committee of Russia carried out a pre-investigative probe that established that the children in the care of a 61-year-old woman were deprived of proper upbringing and subjected to physical violence. The pre-investigative probe results provided grounds for launching a criminal investigation.
In order to avoid criminal responsibility, the woman tried to flee from justice with minor children in her care and was placed on the wanted list. They were located during the shooting of a TV show that invited the woman as a guest. She was arrested in a shooting pavilion and escorted to the investigator. The perpetrator has already been charged and taken to custody.
The investigation also established her involvement in the torture of children of her partner living with them in the apartment. At a request of the investigation, the man born in 1962 was also subjected to preventive detention.
Apart from that, a probe under Article 293 of the Criminal Code of Russia (neglect of duty) was launched in order to provide a comprehensive assessment of the actions of guardianship authorities responsible for the examination of the living conditions of the adopted children. The investigation is ongoing.
