Working visit of Alexander Bastrykin to the Republic of Austria

Today in Vienna Chairman of the Investigative Committee of Russia Alexander Bastrykin had a working meeting with First Deputy of the Federal Minister of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Austria Wilhelm Sandrisser.

The meeting was also attended by the Head of Organizational and Operative Department of the Federal Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Austria Reinhard Shnakl, the Head of Department for Bi- and Multilateral Relations of the Federal Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Austria Elizabeth Lemmerrer, representatives of the Security Policy Department and Federal Agency for Constitution Protection and Combating Terrorism.

During the negotiations, the Chairmen of the two agencies discussed a number of issues of bilateral cooperation, including aspects of the interaction between the Investigative Committee of Russia and the Ministry of the Interior of the Republic of Austria, and developed a plan of further joint work.

Cooperation between Russia and Austria in the law enforcement area is one of the most extensively developing areas of interaction.

Resent examples of successful cooperation between the Investigative Committee of Russia and the Federal Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Austria include joint work on organization of traceability, detention and subsequent extradition to Russia of a number of citizens of the Russian Federation - perpetrators from the international wanted list, such as Aslan Gagiev and Alexander Gitelson. Alexander Bastrykin and Wilhelm Sandrisser expressed clear confidence in necessity of further increasing of potential of agencies in the indicated area in interests of safety of Russia as well as the Republic of Austria.

Apart from that, within the framework of the legislative activities the Investigative Committee of Russia took an active part in review of the draft Agreement between the Government of the Russian Federation and the Government of the Republic of Austria on cooperation in combating crime.

In this relation the parties noted necessity of development of draft Agreement for law enforcement cooperation between the Investigative Committee of Russia and the  Federal Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Austria.

It must be noted that the institution of the International Anti-Corruption Academy in Austrian Laxenburg near Vienna with active participation of Russia and Austria became a milestone of development of international cooperation in combating corruption. In this context the parties discussed possibility of exchange of academic and pedagogical experience between Academies of the Investigative Committee of Russia and the Laxenburg International Anti-Corruption Academy.

In conclusion of the negotiations Alexander Bastrykin expressed hope for further sustainable and comprehensive strengthening of law enforcement cooperation between Russia and Austria and invited to make a reciprocal visit to the Investigative Committee of Russia.
