Investigative Committee launches pre-investigative probe into attack against Russian citizen being staff member of the United Nations Mission in Kosovo

The Main Investigations Directorate of the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation launched a pre-investigative probe into an incident that occurred with Russian citizen Michail Krasnoshchekov being a staff member of the United Nations Mission in Kosovo (UNMIK).

According to the investigation, on the morning of May 28 of the current year, Kosovar police officers invaded Serbian-populated municipalities in the North of the region and arrested Russian citizen, staff member of the United Nations Mission in Kosovo (UNMIK) Mikhail Krasnoshchekov having diplomatic immunity. Apart from that, the Russian citizen was physically injured. Unlawful methods of exerting influence and detention of Michail Krasnoshchekov by Kosovar Special Forces are a rude violation of rules of international law and civilized communication.

Carrying out of the pre-investigative probe is necessary to thoroughly investigate all circumstances of the incident and give legal assessment to illegal actions committed against the Russian citizen. The probe will result in the decision within the scope of competence of the Investigative Committee of Russia.

Investigative Committee of Russia has all legal grounds provided for by international and domestic law to organize procedural events related to the use of unlawful methods of exerting influence against a citizen having diplomatic immunity.
