Suspects in assassination of Ryazan businessman detained

The Ryazan Regional Investigations Directorate of the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation is working on a criminal investigation into the murder of A Ryazan businessman under Part 1 of Article 105 (murder), Part 1 of Article 222 (illegal purchase, storage, and bearing of firearms) of the Criminal Code of Russia. He was found bearing signs of the violent death--gunshot wounds in the head and body--in a car on the road between the town of Spassk-Ryazansky and the rural settlement of Fatyanovka in the morning of September 26, 2019.

Since the moment of its commission, the crime has been investigated by an investigative and operational group, which includes operational officers of the Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs in Ryazan Region along with investigators, experts, and forensic specialists of the Ryazan Regional Investigations Directorate.

According to preliminary data, two suspects stopped the entrepreneur’s car and asked for help regarding the breakdown of their vehicle. Following that, they shot the victim several times with a gun and then fled the scene of the crime.

A competently planned initial stage of the investigation and a number of operative and search activities have revealed the involvement in the businessman’s murder of five citizens: two executors--residents of Stavropol Territory temporarily residing in Moscow Region, two accomplices, and the customer--residents of Moscow Region and Ryazan. According to preliminary data, the assassination was arranged and committed for a large sum of money in relation to the professional activities of the deceased, who had worked as the head of the enterprise organizing passenger transportation by shuttle bus.

The suspects have been detained; investigative activities are being carried out in order to establish all the circumstances of their crime. The investigation seeks from the court the pre-trial custody for the detainees. The criminal investigation is ongoing.
