Another suspect of using violence against National Guard officer during the action of July 27 in Moscow detained

The Main Directorate on Major Crimes Investigation of the Investigative Committee of Russia continues investigating a probe into violence used against representatives of authorities during mass riots in July 2019.

Analysis of the video footage and witness testimonies enabled investigators to establish one more perpetrator, 30-year-old Sergey Surovtsev. On July 27, on Tverskaya Street in Moscow, he lifted up a section of a metal fence and hit a National Guard officer with it, and then tried to block the movement of other law enforcement officers guarding the public order. After that, he disappeared in the crowd.

Surovtsev’s actions were qualified by the investigation as an offense under Part 1 of Article 318 of the Criminal Code of Russia (use of violence against a public official). He has been detained and interrogated about the circumstances of the offense. Surovtsev will be charged in the coming days. The investigation is intended to motion the court about the pre-trial custody for Surovtsev.
