In Moscow, probe into former managers of foreign airlines subsidiary heard by court

The evidence gathered by the Moscow Interregional Transport Investigations Directorate of the Investigative Committee of Russia was found by the court to be sufficient to sentence the former Head of Qatar Airways CJSC mission in Eastern Europe and the former Head of the Sales Department of the said mission to a fine. Depending on the role of each, they were found guilty of committing offenses under Part 1 of Article 201 (abuse of authority), and Part 5 of Article 33, Part 1 of Article 201 of the Criminal Code of Russia (conspiracy in abuse of authority).

As established by the investigation and the court, in 2017, in order to improve indicators of their performance by an increased number of sold tickets, the accused individuals had signed a contract on granting corporate rates for flights for a public joint-stock company without the knowledge and approval of Qatar Airways CJSC. Under the said agreement, the company was granted discounts for flight tickets booked through a website not related to the airlines; the website forwarded users to websites of travel agencies that distributed Qatar Airways CJSC tickets and received agent remuneration.

After the conclusion of the said contract, the company purchased tickets for over 16 million rubles and the airlines unjustifiably paid the travel agencies the remuneration (commission) of over 1.5 million rubles.

During the preliminary investigation, the accused persons admitted their guilt to the full, confessed, and compensated the damage inflicted on the airlines.

Upon hearing the case materials, the court has sentenced the accused to a court fine.
