In Sverdlovsk Region, two perpetrators arrested as part of investigation into murder of 9-year-old boy

Late November 27, 2019, the “Child in Danger” hotline of the Sverdlovsk Regional Investigations Directorate of the Investigative Committee of Russia received a call informing about a body of a 9-year-old boy showing signs of violent death discovered in South-Western forest park in Chkalovsky District of Yekaterinburg. In order to verify the information, the Sverdlovsk Regional Investigations Directorate immediately organized search activities to locate the body of the child. Upon arrival at the crime scene, officers found the boy’s body wrapped in a blanket and concealed under the ground. The child’s death was caused by mechanical asphyxia by the airway’s closing. The Sverdlovsk Regional Investigations Directorate of the Investigative Committee of Russia has launched a probe under Paragraph C of Part 2 of Article 105 of the Criminal Code of Russia (murder of a minor).

Evidence of the crime was collected and registered by officers of the Department of Forensic Surveillance (in Yekaterinburg) of the Main Forensics Directorate of the Investigative Committee of Russia and Forensics Department of the Sverdlovsk Regional Investigations Directorate of the Investigative Committee of Russia using advanced forensic equipment that enabled the specialists to find a number of significant pieces of evidence. Upon instruction of the management of the Investigations Directorate, a reinforced investigative and operative team was created for the most prompt investigation and performance of large-scale investigative activities in the shortest possible time.

While carrying out of the set of investigative actions and operative activities, officers of the Investigative Committee of Russia and police identified a suspect--the father of the murdered child born in 1979. The perpetrator was detained in Ufa (the Republic of Bashkortostan). Upon initial investigative activities, it was established that the man killed his son due to the developed personal animosity. The said version of the offense in being verified by a whole set of investigative actions. The detainee has been charged with an offense under Paragraph C of Part 2 of Article 105 of the Criminal Code of Russia (murder of a minor). It must be also noted that a woman born in 1971 in Bashkortostan was identified and detained during a special operation. She was charged with accessory in the murder of the minor (Part 5 of Article 33, Paragraph C of Part 2 of Article 105 of the Criminal Code of Russia). At the moment, both detainees have been placed in custody.

The criminal role of each of the detainees will be finalized during the investigation that will also check their possible involvement in previously committed offenses. Moreover, operative information about the possible involvement of other perpetrators is to be verified as well. The investigative activities aimed to gather and prove the evidence are ongoing. Witnesses are being interrogated (including the mother of the deceased child who came to the investigator on her own initiative), a set of required forensic examinations has been arranged and is being currently carried out.

Materials characterizing the family where the boy lived are being obtained. Caused and circumstances that led to the tragedy are being clarified; the investigation process will include a set of measures to prevent such circumstances in the future. The performance of preventive system authorities for establishing the living conditions of the family where the tragedy occurred will be thoroughly checked; having the grounds, an impartial legal assessment will be given to the actions (inaction) of these authorities.
