In Karelia, man found guilty of committing murder and sexual violence against young girl

The evidence gathered by the Karelia Republican Investigations Directorate of the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation was found by the court to be sufficient to convict a 60-year-old local resident. He was found guilty of committing offenses under Paragraph B of Part 4 of Article 132 (sexual violence against a person under the age of 14) and Paragraphs C and J of Part 2 of Article 105 (murder of a minor attended by sexual violence) of the Criminal Code of Russia.

The investigation and the court established that, on September 12, 2018, the convict attacked a 12-year-old girl heading to school in the Rabocheostrovsk settlement of Kemsky District, pulled the child away from the road to a forest, committed sexual violence against her, and inflicted numerous stabs that caused her death. Following that, the perpetrator hid the body in the forest and fled the scene.

The man was detained in the shortest possible time as a result of immediate investigative actions and operative search activities carried out by investigators of the Investigative Committee of Russia and police criminal investigation officers. Upon investigative motion, the court ruled to put him in custody.

During the investigation, officers of the Investigative Committee of Russia carried out large-scale work to collect the evidence; material evidence has been submitted to the probe materials, 32 forensic examinations including DNA and scent tracing have been carried out, witnesses have been interrogated.

The court sentenced the accused to 21 years of imprisonment in a strict regime correctional colony.
