Two participants of criminal community engaged in stealing goods from railway wagons in Tver Region sentenced


The evidence gathered by the Main Investigations Directorate of the Investigative Committee of Russia has been found by the court to be sufficient to sentence Artem Yegorov, the train driver of Rzhevskoye locomotive depot of Oktyabrskaya Railway, and Ivan Mitkov, a local citizen. They have been found guilty of committing offenses under Part 2 of Article 210, Part 4 of Article 158 of the Criminal Code of Russia (participation in a criminal community; theft committed by an organized group on an especially large scale).

According to investigative data, in 2018 the accused together with other participants of the criminal community had been carrying out unscheduled stops of trains transiting the Rzhev station, breaking into containers, and stealing various goods. The goods were consequently sold through corporate entities and individuals controlled by the accused. The criminal community consisted of workers of the Oktyabrskaya Railway including heads of transportation and movement dispatcher center, locomotive crew, train security, and other persons.

As part of the investigation, investigators conducted over 40 searches, during which they discovered and seized the stolen property and money. The joint work of investigators and operative officers of the Federal Security Service of Russia resulted in establishing the stolen property distribution channels, its buyers, and the property of the participants of the criminal community that was arrested.

In total, charges under the probe were pressed against 40 participants of the criminal community. The court has ruled to detain 33 perpetrators of the probe under investigative motion.

Five accused individuals testified on the circumstances of the offenses. Mitkov and Yegorov signed pre-trial immunity agreements; therefore, their cases were presented separately.

The court has sentenced Mitkov to 4 years of imprisonment, Yegorov to 3 years and 8 months of imprisonment in a general regime correctional colony.

The investigation of the main probe into other suspects is ongoing.
