In Kaluga, court announces sentence over murder of local citizen in 2014

The evidence gathered by the Main Investigations Directorate of the Investigative Committee of Russia has been found by the court to be sufficient to sentence brothers Yevgeny Tatarintsev and Vladimir Tatarintsev. They have been found guilty of committing offenses under Paragraph A of Part 2 of Article 131, Paragraphs G and J of Part 2 of Article 105 of the Criminal Code of Russia (rape, murder).

The investigation and the court established, at night of July 16, 2014, the convicts had attacked an 18-year-old girl in order to rape her in a forest near trade pavilions on the outskirts of Kaluga near Zvezdnaya Street. Having committed the attack, they had strangled the victim in order to conceal the crime. The perpetrators had moved the body to the nearest forest and burned it.

During an examination of the scene, biological traces of two persons were detected. In four years, investigators of the regional Investigations Directorate jointly with operative units of the Ministry of Internal Affairs have checked the involvement in the offense of over 11,000 persons upon versions suggested by the investigation and established that the genotype found at the crime scene belonged to local resident Yevgeny Tatarintsev. He was detained; however, he did not admit his guilt. At that moment, his accomplices were not identified.

Due to these circumstances, the victim’s mother applied to the personal reception of the Chairman of the Investigative Committee of Russia who referred the probe to the Central Office of the Investigative Committee for further investigation. In the shortest time possible, investigators checked the involvement in the offense of people close to Tatarintsev and carried out a number of expert examinations. In particular, a scent tracing examination revealed scent traces on the victim’s clothes and on the murder weapon (garrote) identifying Vladimir Tatarintsev as their owner. The man was also detained and, during investigative actions, testified on the circumstances of the offense committed together with his brother Yevgeny and one more accomplice neither him nor his brother had been acquainted with. According to their testimonies, they had met the latter a short time before the offense and drunk alcoholic beverages together. The investigation into Tatarintsevs’ accomplice is ongoing and to be presented separately.

Upon review of the evidence submitted by the investigation, the court has sentenced each of the brothers to 18 years of imprisonment in a strict regime colony.
