Probe into former Defense Minister of Ukraine Anatoly Gritsenko referred to court

The Main Investigations Directorate of the Investigative Committee of Russia has finished the investigation into former Defense Minister of Ukraine--former candidate for President of Ukraine Anatoly Gritsenko. He is accused of committing public calls for terrorist activities on the territory of the Russian Federation using mass media (Part 2 of Article 205.2 of the Criminal Code of Russia). Gritsenko was declared wanted and arrested in absentia in April 2019. At present, he continues hiding in the Ukrainian territory and cannot be extradited according to international law and the legislation of Ukraine.

According to the investigation, on June 16, 2014, and on July 2, 2017, Gritsenko, being in the Ukrainian territory, had made public statements through mass media calling for terrorist activities on the territory of the Russian Federation by bombing Russian trains in the border area and cars in Moscow and Taganrog in response to activities aimed to destroy Ukrainian military equipment and kill representatives of the Ukrainian Armed Forces allegedly carried out by Russian security services following orders of the country leadership.

Gritsenko’s involvement in the offense is confirmed by the set of gathered evidence, including the results of forensic examinations, operative search activities, and other criminal case materials.

At present, the criminal case into Anatoly Gritsenko with the approved indictment has been sent to the court to be tried on the merits.
