In Sverdlovsk Region, the Investigative Committee presses charges against local citizen for murder of two girls on Uktus Mountain

The Sverdlovsk Regional Investigations Directorate of the Investigative Committee of Russia has pressed charges against a 34-year-old Yekaterinburg citizen for the murder of two girls (Paragraphs A, I of Part 2 of Article 105 of the Criminal Code of Russia).

According to the investigation, late on August 25, 2018, out of malicious motives the accused had made several gunshots at the two girls with the firearm he had brought to a training slope of the Uktus Mountain Ski Sports Complex on Zimnyaya Street, following which he had taken measures to conceal the murder traces and fled. One of the victims had died at the scene, the other one had subsequently died in a hospital. As a result of a complex of investigative measures and search activities, law enforcement bodies managed to identify and detain the suspect who testified under the burden of evidence.

Considering the severity of the crime, information on the detainee’s personality, and other circumstances established during the investigation, the investigators have motioned the court to subject the detainee to preventive detention on December 11, 2019. Upon review of materials submitted by the Investigative Committee of Russia, the court has agreed with the arguments of the investigation and placed the accused man in custody until February 8, 2020, inclusive. At present, further activities aimed to collect evidence are in progress. The criminal investigation is ongoing.
