An ex-prosecutor detained during investigation of a probe into Aslan Gagiev's criminal community

The Main Investigations Directorate over North Caucasus Federal District of the Investigative Committee of Russia in interaction with Federal Security Service Directorate over the Republic of North Ossetia - Alania during investigation of a probe into members of criminal community led by Aslan Gagiev, detained ex-prosecutor of Zaterechny District of Vladikavkaz (Republic of North Ossetia - Alania) Olga Shvetsova under Article 91 of the Criminal Procedural Code of the Russian Federation.

According to investigation, approximately in August 2012 Shvetsova, during personal meeting with the leader of the criminal community Gagiev in Moscow, ordered a murder of former husband of her sister - Alexander Leonov, due to animosity caused by divorce of the latter with her sister. Consequently, on September 12, 2012 Alexander Leonov, being an investigator of Northern Transport Investigations Department of the Moscow Interregional Transport Directorate of the Investigative Committee of Russia, was killed by members of this criminal organization in Moscow.

Investigation is deciding upon placement of the detainee in custody.

As it was reported earlier, the criminal organization created and led by Aslan Gagiev, born in Georgia, started its illegal activities no later than in 2004 and consisted of over 50 participants. As a result of 49 episodes of illegal activities in Moscow, Moscow Region and Republic of North Ossetia - Alania, participants of the community murdered 60 persons, including law enforcement officers, republican and municipal authorities, businessmen and other persons. Up to date, 24 members of the illegal organization have been sentenced to long-term imprisonment, including life sentences. A probe into 12 participants is reviewed by court, 7 are on the international wanted list and 7 were killed upon Gagiev's instruction during internal conflicts of 2010-2014.

Aslan Gagiev was extradited from Austrian Republic to the Russian Federation on June 20, 2018 and placed in custody. He is currently studying case files of the probe launched against him under Article 217 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Russia.

The Main Investigations Directorate over North Caucasus Federal District of the Investigative Committee of Russia continues carrying out required investigative actions aimed to establish all circumstances of the committed offences and bring to justice all the responsible persons.
