Chairman of the Investigative Committee of Russia puts under supervision progress and results of probe into violation of rights of Great Patriotic War participant in Kurgan Region

Today a federal TV channel broadcast a story of a participant of the Great Patriotic War from Kurgan Region Petr Zhukov, who lives in a house of his relative. In June 2019, the senior man was registered as a person in need of housing; however, later the Kurgan Regional Social Services Office removed him from the registry due to his cohabitation with relatives. The authorities reported that the veteran had a status of Great Patriotic War participant not taking part in military combats. However, according to relatives, the man had fought. The Kurgan Regional Investigations Directorate of the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation has immediately arranged a pre-investigative probe.

The Chairman of the Investigative Committee of Russia has instructed the Head of the Kurgan Regional Investigations Directorate to thoroughly examine all the arguments provided by journalists in the report and noted that, in anticipation of anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War, all heads of regional investigative units have to pay special attention to all violations of the veterans’ rights; provision of help and legal protection to the veterans shall become one of the key priorities of Investigative Committee officers.

Upon instruction of Alexander Bastrykin, the Central Office of the Investigative Committee of Russia monitors the process and results of the probe.
