The Chairman of the Investigative Committee of Russia signed a decree to create a new unit in the structure of the Main Investigations Directorate - the Department for Investigation of Cyber Crimes and Crimes in the Field of Advanced Technology. Investigators of this department will specialize in the investigation of crimes of the said category that have specificities. It was noted that monitoring of crime showed a significant increase in recent years of a number of crimes committed using IT technologies and computer information offenses. Thus, over 170,000 such crimes were committed in 2018, and in the 9 months of the current year, the number of such crimes committed throughout the country exceeded 200,000.

The Chairman expressed confidence that the concentration of all efforts aimed at countering cyber crime and the creation of the special department in the Investigative Committee structure would benefit the efficiency of meeting objectives in this area. In this, he noted the positive experience of forming such specialized units by foreign colleagues.
