Chairman of the Investigative Committee of Russia makes working visit to the Republic of Dagestan

Chairman of the Investigative Committee of Russia Alexander Bastrykin has taken a working visit to the Republic of Dagestan.

During the trip, he met with Head of the Republic of Dagestan Vladimir Vasilyev to discuss the results of anti-corruption activities aimed to improve the crime situation and economic security in the region. Alexander Bastrykin noted that, at present, the Investigative Committee together with units of the Federal Security Service and Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia continued the active work for decriminalization of the North-Caucasian region. Many former Dagestan authorities have already been brought to criminal responsibility for committing corruption offenses, as well as other persons accused of offenses of varying severity.

Vladimir Vasilyev expressed his appreciation for officers of the Investigative Committee of Russia for their everyday work for the benefit of citizens of the Republic. He also noted that according to the Concept of specialized cadet education of the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation approved on May 29, 2018, by the Chairman of the Investigative Committee of Russia, it was planned to create a cadet class at the Dagestan Republican Investigations Directorate of the Investigative Committee in the Republican Educational Centre in early 2020. 19 candidates have been chosen upon the results of a selection process among 9th-grade graduates. This is the biggest advanced school in the North Caucasus attended by over 1,500 children.

In his turn, Alexander Bastrykin thanked the Head of the Region for his assistance provided in combating crime in the Republic of Dagestan and ensured that the work aimed to maintain the legal order in the Republic would be continued. The Chairman expressed special gratitude for the support and development of the cadet movement in the system of the Investigative Committee of Russia.

After that, he had a meeting with relatives of officers of the Investigative Committee of Russia killed in the line of duty. He thanked them for bringing up honorable and courageous citizens that had given their lives to protect principles of legitimacy and justice. The guests expressed their gratitude for the constant attention and help to the families of their deceased colleagues. Alexander Bastrykin promised that the Investigative Committee would always provide help and assistance to families of the deceased and wished them happy New Year, happiness, prosperity, and the peaceful sky above their heads.

The Chairman also held an operative meeting attended by Deputy Chairman of the Investigative Committee of Russia Igor Krasnov, directors and officers of the Main Investigations Directorate of the Investigative Committee of Russia over the North-Caucasian Federal District and the Dagestan Republican Investigations Directorate of the Investigative Committee of Russia. The operative meeting covered the results of activities of the units for the previous period of 2019, reports on the progress and results of investigation of probes into embezzlement of funds allocated for purchase, construction, and the renovation of engineering infrastructure objects in the Republic of Dagestan; the creation of a terrorist community in the Penal Colony No. 2 of the Kalmykia Directorate of the Federal Penitentiary Service of Russia; members of the criminal community led by A. Gagiev; and a number of others.

Summarizing the meeting, Alexander Bastrykin gave a number of specific instructions aimed at prompt, comprehensive and high-quality investigation of probes.
