Investigation into Head of Derbent District of the Republic of Dagestan finished

Within the framework of the efforts on decriminalization of the North Caucasian District, the Main Investigations Directorate of the Investigative Committee of Russia has finished the investigation into Head of Derbent District of the Republic of Dagestan Magomed Dzhelilov. He is accused of committing six offenses under Part 4 of Article 160 of the Criminal Code of Russia (embezzlement, that is, the stealing of other people’s property entrusted to the convicted person, committed on an especially large scale by a person through their official position).

According to the investigation, in 2015, Dzhelilov, holding the designated position, had illegally granted to his relatives the ownership rights for six land plots of the total area of six hectares along the Kavkaz federal road, inflicting damage of over eight million rubles to the municipal budget.

Apart from that, the investigation revealed circumstances that facilitated the commission of the offenses and sent a relevant submission for their elimination. Upon review of the submission, a number of officials of the Derbent District Administration were dismissed from their posts.

Despite significant obstruction shown by the convict during the preliminary investigation, the investigation gathered enough evidence. The criminal case with the approved indictment will be shortly sent to the court to be tried on the merits.
