Vyacheslav Gaizer found guilty of abuse of authority

The evidence gathered by the Investigative Committee of Russia on the probe into former head of Komi Republic Vyacheslav Gaizer was found by the court to be sufficient to issue an indictment.

He was found guilty of committing an offence under Part 3 of Article 33, Part 1 of Article 286 of the Criminal Code of Russia (organization of abuse of authority).

The investigation and the court established that Gaizer, while acting as a head of Komi Republic in 2013-2014, gave an illegal instruction to the head of Syktyvkar Municipal District Ivan Pozdeev for allocation of land lots for construction of apartment buildings without tendering. The indicated actions were performed for the benefit of a company owned by Gaizer's  acquaintance. This resulted in a significant breach of legally protected rights of the municipality, damage to the budget of which exceeded 8.7 million rubles.

The court sentenced Gaizer for the committed offence to 1.5 years of imprisonment and deprivation of the right to hold certain positions. Due to expiry of the period of limitation Gaizer was released from the punishment, however he continues serving his previous long-term sentence for committing of offences under Articles 159, 174.1 and 290 of the Criminal Code of Russia (fraud; legalization of funds acquired in an illegal way; bribery).

To remind, former head of Syktyvkar Municipal District Pozdeev had been also previously sentenced for committing an offence under Part 1 of Article 286 of the Criminal Code of Russia (abuse of authority).
