In St. Petersburg, a probe launched into a man suspected of calls for mass riots

The St. Petersburg Main Investigations Directorate of the Investigative Committee of Russia launched a probe into 36-year-old Alexander Berdnikov born in Smolensk who is suspected of committing an offence under Part 3 of Article 212 of the Criminal Code of Russia (calls for mass riots for violence against citizens).

According to investigation, on February 6-7, 2021 in St. Petersburg an informational material (audio record) available for unlimited number of users was placed in one of messengers. It contained calls for mass riots in the Russian Federation, participation in them, and calls for violence against citizens attended by arson, destruction of property, use of weapons and armed resistance.

Investigative activities established involvement of Alexander Berdnikov. He has been detained. At present he is subject to investigative activities, the preventive measure for him is being decided upon.
