A probe launched into desecration of monument of Red Army soldiers in Czech Republic

The Main Investigative Department of the Investigative Committee of Russia launched a probe under Article 354.1 of the Criminal Code of Russia (public desecration of symbols of Russian military glory).

According to investigation, on April 21, 2021 unidentified persons painted inscriptions on the pedestal of the memorial of Soviet Soldiers-Liberators in the Moravian Square in Brno, Czech Republic.

The said monument had been installed in Brno in 1955 in honor of liberation of the city from fascists. The local citizens always treated the monument with respect. In this regard such demonstration of neglect of common memory and history of the fight of Soviet people against fascism looks especially illogical.

The Investigative Committee of Russia is taking comprehensive measures, including those under existing international legislation, to establish persons involved in the offense.
