Alexander Bastrykin pays tribute to the fallen in the Great Patriotic War in St. Petersburg

The Chairman of the Investigative Committee Alexander Bastrykin took part in solemn mourning ceremony dedicated to the 76th anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War.

The Chairman of the Investigative Committee of Russia visited Piskarevskoe memorial cemetery in order to personally pay tribute to the fallen in the Great Patriotic War. The event was also attended by Great Patriotic War veterans and residents of besieged Leningrad, plenipotentiary representative of the President of the Russian Federation in the North-Western Federal District Alexander Gutsan, St. Petersburg governor Alexander Beglov, Deputy Chairman of the Investigative Committee of Russia Alexander Klaus, counselor of the Chairman of the Investigative Committee of Russia Alexey Klimentyev, heads and officers of investigative departments of St. Petersburg, Leningrad Region and the North-West Transport Investigative Department, officers of Investigative Directorate II of the Main Investigative Department of the Investigative Committee of Russia (in St. Petersburg), director of the Girl's Boarding School of the Investigative Committee of Russia Elena Garanina, head of the Cultural Centre of the Investigative Committee of Russia Maria Krasnopeeva, officers of the Investigative Committee of Russia, Headmaster of the St. Petersburg Academy of the Investigative Committee of Russia Alexander Efremov and the Academy students.

The mourning ceremony attended by officers of the Investigative Committee of Russia takes place at Piskarevskoe memorial cemetery every year. There is the biggest mass grave of Leningrad siege victims and Leningrad front warriors.  This way of paying tribute to city residents deceased during the Great Patriotic War has become a noble tradition of the Committee officers. The officers of the Investigative Committee of Russia placed wreaths and flowers at the bottom of Homeland-Mother monument, bowing their heads to the memory of those who paid their lives for the freedom and independence of our country, those who fulfilled their sacred duty defending the Homeland from enemies.

Paying the tribute and remembering the bitter and heroic pages of history, the Chairman of the Investigative Committee of Russia noted that the feat of the people unbroken by fascists, who died for the lives of their descendants and the future of their country, is immortal. "Decades after the heritage of the patriotic spirit and dedication of those people remains a moral compass for students of educational institutions and all officers of the Investigative Committee of Russia", A. Bastrykin underlined.
