A probe launched into residents of North Caucasian republics suspected of financing terrorism

The Main Investigative Department over North Caucasian Federal District of the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation launched three probes into residents of Dagestan Republic Kurbanmagomed Megjilov and Gusein Magomedaliev and a resident of Kabardino-Balkar Republic Arthur Mendokhov. They are suspected of committing offences under Part 1 of Article 205.1 of the Criminal Code of Russia (financing of terrorism).

According to investigation, in 2017-2018 Medjidov, Magomedaliev and Mendokhov, following the ideology and sharing goals of participants of international terrorist organizations Islam State and Jabhat al-Nusra (banned in the Russian Federation) operating in the Syrian Arab Republic, transferred money to members of the international terrorist organizations residing in the Syrian Arab Republic totaling for over 300,000 rubles for committing terrorist offenses.

Investigators in cooperation with the Central Office of the Federal Security Service of Russia, Main Directorate for Combating Extremism of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia, Federal Penitentiary Service of Russia, Kabardino-Balkar Republican Department of the Federal Security Service of Russia, and Centre E of the Main Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia over the North-Caucasian Federal District carried out urgent investigative activities.

On the same day Medjidov, Magomedaliev and Mendokhov were detained and questioned about illegal activities. Upon investigative motion, the court ruled to put the suspects into custody.

At present the investigation is checking involvement of the suspects in other offenses.

The investigation is ongoing.
