In the Republic of Khakassia, sentence imposed over a probe into bribery committed by former Acting Deputy Head of the Republic of Khakassia Sergey Novikov

Evidence gathered by the Krasnoyarsk Regional and Khakassia Republican Investigative Departments was found by court to be sufficient to sentence former Acting Deputy Head of the Republic of Khakassia Sergey Novikov. He was found guilty of committing an offence under Part 6 of Article 290 of the Criminal Code of Russia (bribe-taking on an especially large scale).

Investigation and the court established that in December 2019 the State Budgetary Institution of the Republic of Khakassia - Department of Capital Construction signed an over 480 million rubles contract with a contractor organization for construction of the second stage of Tuim Psychological and Neurological Boarding School housing unit. Sergey Novikov, holding an official position and having an intention to receive a bribe, demanded at least 12 million rubles from the contractor organization for patronage he organized over the firm's activities in winning the contracting auction, creation of comfortable construction activities, work commissioning and priority cash transfers for performed works.

On April 17, 2020 in Abakan during a personal meeting Sergey Novikov received an especially large scale bribe of 2 million rubles from a representative of the contractor organization as part of cash remuneration.

During investigation property of the accused of estimated value of 45 million rubles has been arrested.

The court sentenced Sergey Novikov to 9 years of imprisonment in a strict regime penal colony and a fine of over 60.5 million rubles and deprived him from right to hold official positions in local self-government bodies related to acting as a representative of authorities for a period of 5 years.
