A mass grave of civilians discovered in Novgorod Region

During search for unregistered military grave sites around Vdovino village of Novgorodsky district of Novgorod Region servicemen in cooperation with Military-Historical Centre of North-Western federal district, Novgorod regional public organization Dolina in the memory of N. I. Orlov and Search Movement of Russia discovered previously unexamined mass grave of civilians including women and children killed by Nazi effaceurs during occupation of the region.

In terms of a probe investigated by the Main Investigative Department of the Investigative Committee of Russia into genocide of Soviet peoples by German fascist invaders during the Great Patriotic War the officers of the investigative department of the Committee organized performance of investigative actions at the grave site in order to recover the human remains for their further identification.

At present remains of over 190 persons, including children, have been recovered, the exhuming works continue every day.

Forensic commissions have been scheduled for all the remains to identify gender, age, injuries, causes and remoteness of death. The biological material obtained during examinations will be used for further genotyping of the deceased.

In terms of investigation of the probe investigators carry out archival work to establish circumstances of atrocities of German fascist invaders in the area of the discovered grave.

The Investigative Committee of Russia asks persons possessing information on circumstances of extermination of civilians and war prisoners in the area of Vdovino village of village of Novgorodsky district of Novgorod Region to provide details to the Novgorod Regional Investigative Department of the Investigative Committee of Russia or by means of electronic and phone communication.
