In St. Petersburg, charges pressed against a man for facilitating terrorist activities

The St. Petersburg Main Investigative Department is investigating a probe into offense under Part 1 of Article 205.1 of the Criminal Code of Russia (facilitating terrorist activities) committed by a 31-year-old local resident.

As a result of investigative actions and search activities carried out in cooperation with regional departments of the Interior Ministry and Federal Security Service the investigators managed to identify and detain the man. Charges have been pressed, at present a preventive measure for him is being decided upon.

According to probe materials, in 2016 the accused, being in an unidentified place of St. Petersburg, made money transfers from his bank account to the bank account of a man born in 1988, previously convicted of facilitating involvement of citizens of the Russian Federation, as well as foreign citizens, in participation in an armed formation in the Syrian Arab Republic, not provided for by the legislation of this country, for purposes contrary to the interests of the Russian Federation.

A set of activities aimed to establish all circumstances of the situation is being carried out. The criminal investigation is ongoing.
