Probe launched into death of a civilian during shelling by Ukrainian servicemen

The Investigative Committee of Russia continues to identify officials involved in use of banned means and methods of warfare against civilians of Donbass and to give them legal assessment.

Another probe has been launched under Part 1 of Article 365 of the Criminal Code of Russia (cruel treatment of civilians and use in a military conflict of means and methods of warfare, banned by an international treaty of the Russian Federation).

According to investigation, on May 24, 2021 servicemen of the Ukrainian Armed Forces and other Ukrainian armed formations fired grenade launchers at civilian infrastructure facilities not being military targets, located on Lugovsky street in Trudovskaya Shaft settlement in the Petrovsky district of Donetsk. As a result, a 65-year-old civilian not participating in the armed conflict received a deadly wound.

The Ukrainian servicemen,  following the deliberately criminal orders of higher officials, violated the Protocol on Cease-Fire in Southeast of Ukraine and related Memorandum, as well as provisions of the Convention on Protection of Civilian Persons in Times of War and related Additional Protocol II.

The Investigative Committee of Russia continues to carry out investigative actions aimed to identify officials from among Ukrainian servicemen involved in this and other similar offenses in Donbass.
