Sentence imposed over a probe into a fire in Gravitatsia mall in Irkutsk

The evidence collected by the Main Investigative Department of the Investigative Committee of Russia was found by court to be sufficient to sentence Natalya and Oleg Sobolev and host of the show in Gravitatsia mall. Depending on the role of each, they were found guilty of rendering of services, that do not meet safety requirements, meant for children up to 6 years of age, entailing infliction by negligence of severe bodily harm to a person (Paragraphs A, B, C of Part 2 of Article 238 of the Criminal Code of Russia).

Investigation and the court established, that from August 2017 to June 2018, in Irkutsk the Director of Kaizen LLC Natalya Soboleva, the Technical Director of Kaizen LLC Oleg Sobolev, an underage show host of this organization and his assistant Angelina Loskutova, in violation of fire protection requirements of the Russian Federation demonstrated to children and their parents experiments using open fire in an enclosed area - Gravitatsia scientific and entertainment centre. On June 1, 2018, in presence of 50 spectators, they were demonstrating another series of chemical experiments with the use of open fire in the Gravitatsia scientific and entertainment centre. During the event the vapour ignited and started the fire. The fire affected children and their parents present in the audience; two minor children received severe health injuries.

The court sentenced Natalya and Oleg Sobolev to 3 years and 10 months of imprisonment in a general regime penal colony each with a fine of 100,000 rubles, the show's host was sentenced to 3 years of imprisonment, suspended.

Previously, an indictment was issued into Loskutova.
