The Investigative Committee of Russia draws attention to the need to comply with fire safety measures to avoid the death of children

Recently, cases of death of children and adults in fires in various regions of the country have become more frequent. In many cases, deaths of people were caused by criminal negligence or carelessness.

Thus, in May of the current year in the Republic of Dagestan, a woman locked her four minor children in a rented apartment and went to work. A five-year-old son, in the absence of his mother, set fire to a mattress located in the children's room of the apartment, which led to a fire. As a result of the fire, a 3-year-old girl and a 5-year-old boy died at the scene and 8-year-old and 9-year-old boys who left the apartment through the window received severe injuries and burns.

In the Khanty-Mansi Autonomous Okrug, a fire in a private house killed two young children aged two and three.

In the Nizhny Novgorod Region, a fire occurred in a country house killing a 63-year-old woman and her 5-year-old grandson. According to preliminary data, the fire started in a shed attached to the house.

In Irkutsk Region, two children, 2 and 4 years old, died in a fire in a private residential building.

In the Udmurt Republic, a fire occurred in a house of a family with many children, as a result six people died, including four children. Presumably, the fire was caused by careless handling of fire by the parents while smoking.

In Saratov Region, a fire occurred in a private house due to careless handling of fire by adults while smoking. As a result, a 30-year-old woman and her minor daughters died.

In all such cases the investigative bodies of the Investigative Committee of Russia launch and investigate probes and carry out investigative actions aimed at careful and detailed establishment of all circumstances of the incident, causes and conditions that lead to tragedies, arrange a number of forensic examinations, assess social and living conditions in the families and attention to specific cases on behalf of guardianship authorities.

The Investigative Committee of Russia draws attention and warns of the need for a more responsible approach of parents and other persons to ensuring safety of children in residential premises.

Do not leave small children unattended by adults, exclude any situation that could lead to the death of a child during a fire! Observe the established fire safety rules! And one more important advice for parents: conduct preventive conversations with children, tell children about fire safety rules, form in children a sense of the danger of fire. Carried away by the game, children may forget to put out the fire, and as a result, an innocent prank can turn into a big trouble. Fires occur in residential buildings and apartments due to gross violation of fire safety rules during the operation of heating devices, including homemade ones, overloading the electrical network and ordinary human negligence. Tragic consequences usually occur when a fire breaks out at night due to untimely detection of the source of ignition.

Remember that if fire safety rules are not followed, your home is a source of increased danger! Your lives and the lives of your children depend on your attention and adherence to fire safety rules!

The Investigative Committee of Russia also reminds that preventive services need to carry out explanatory work with citizens and inform the population of the need for timely repair or replacement of stove, gas equipment, and power grids. Particular attention should be paid to the prevention of careless fire handling, for example, by conducting more thematic lessons in schools. Apart from that, social services should supervise situation in dysfunctional families, where there is a high risk of such incidents, and at the first alarming signals, report to law enforcement agencies.
