Probe into the shooting at the Magistrates Court in Novokuznetsk is completed

Central Investigation Department of the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation has concluded the investigation of the criminal case against 45-year-old Artem Pakalov. He was charged with committing an offence under Part 3 of Article 30, Paragraph A of Part 2 of Article 105 (attempted murder of two persons), Article 295 of the Criminal Code of the Criminal Code of Russia (infringement on life of a bailiff in connection with the court case).

The investigation established that Artem Pakalov came carrying a gun to the judicial district No. 2 of the Novokuznetsk court district in the city of Novokuznetsk on January 16, 2020. At that time, a magistrate was considering a criminal case of intentional damage to Pakalov's property. The defendant in this case was a citizen who was in conflict with Pakalov. According to Pakalov, his goal was to that person. At the entrance to the building, the accused, after being stopped by bailiff Alexei Biryukov, fired a shotgun at him. At that moment, there was a woman in the courtroom, who had been invited to the court as a witness in one of the cases under consideration. Upon entering the room, the intruder shot her. After that, Pakalov was detained by bailiffs and National Guard officers who arrived on the scene. The victims were hospitalized. The bailiff, 45, died in the hospital from a stomach wound.

Investigators of the Investigative Committee of Russia has collected sufficient evidence, appointed and conducted a set of forensic examinations, including psychological and psychiatric. The criminal case was referred to the supervisory authority for approval of the indictment and transfer to the court for consideration on the merits.

The property of the accused in the amount of more than 12 mln rubles was arrested.
