In St. Petersburg, a man, suspected of justification of terrorist activities, detained

The St. Petersburg Main Investigative Department of the Investigative Committee of Russia launched a probe under Part 2 of Article 205.2 of the Criminal Code of Russia (public calls for terrorist activities, public justification of terrorism or propaganda of terrorism) into Yury Khovansky, a blogger born in 1990.

Khovansky was detained as a result of investigative actions and search activities carried out in cooperation with officers of the regional departments of the Federal Security Service and the Russia Ministry of Internal Affairs with force protection of the National Guard. The preventive measure for him and the charges are being decided upon.

According to investigation, not later than July 3, 2020, the suspect in an apartment of a house on Pushkinskaya street of St. Petersburg, addressing other persons, in order to form terrorist ideology and vision of its attractiveness, accesses the Internet and performed a song, containing, according to an expert conclusion, signs of public calls for terrorist activities, public justification of terrorism and its propaganda, signs of threats, humiliation and violence against a group of persons based on nationality, and also calls for and justification of the need for aggressive, violent, cruel actions (terrorist acts) posing a threat of death of people.

A set of activities aimed to establish all circumstances of the situation is being carried out. The criminal investigation is ongoing.
