The Investigative Committee of Russia finished investigation of a probe into former minister of internal affairs of the Komi Republic accused of bribery on an especially large scale and legalization of money
The Komi Republican Investigative Department of the Investigative Committee of Russia finished investigation of a probe into former minister of internal affairs of the Republic of Komi Victor Polovnikov accused of bribery on an especially large scale (Part 6 of Article 290 of the Criminal Code of Russia) and legalization of money acquired in an illegal way (Paragraph B of Part 4 of Article 174.1 of the Criminal Code of Russia).
According to investigation, in 2017 the accused, holding a position of minister of internal affairs of the Republic of Komi received through mediators a bribe of 14 million rubles as part of a bribe of 25 million rubles for facilitating a person, accused of swindling, committed on a large scale, in legalization of money acquired in an illegal way in terms of a probe processed by an investigator of investigative division of the Komi Republican Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia. In particular, the minister instructed to change a preventive measure for the said accused person from placement into custody to travel and behavior restrictions. Also, the qualifying feature - the commission of crimes by an organized group - was excluded from charges brought against him. A part of the illegal cash remuneration was legalized by purchase of an apartment in a town house and a share for a land plot.
The investigative support of the probe was carried out by officers of the Komi Republican Department of the Federal Security Service.
The investigator gathered enough evidence, the probe will be sent to court in the nearest future to be tried on the merits.
